Auckland Hand Woodworkers Guild

Promoting the joy of working wood with hand tools.

Hi everyone,

The point of this website is mainly to organise real world events were people can learn woodworking skills (or show-off). In particular I'd like to see things at various skill levels so that people who are totally new to woodwork don't feel left out. I've been running a few workshops for newbies recently, and am planning to run more (and will advertise them here). For the next one, I was thinking of a tool sharpening workshop.

Depending on who we get turning up to this site, we could also run events of different types. What would people like to see? If you think you might like to volunteer to speak, teach, show and tell or whatever, then pop a note here and I'll organise something.

Hi Cliff,

Things got a bit busy towards the end of the year, and I never ended up organising a sharpening workshop. I'm still keen to do so. I don't claim to be an expert, although I can certainly demonstrate a range of different techniques and show what works best for me.

The workshop would be out west, in Ranui, where we have a shared workshop (at http://www.earthsong.org.nz). My preference would be for either a weeknight or a Sunday morning. I'll poke my more local mates about dates, but Cliff or anyone else reading via this list, can you let me know what times would be good.

cheers,

Craig

I'd love to come along, and luckily i live in Glen Eden!

I too am an enthusiastic amateur, always willing to learn more. I have a couple of projects on the go, and each one gets closer and closer to what i actually envisaged when i started.

I got a sharpening stone for Christmas, so it would be good to learn the best way to use it...

Regards
Rory

Nice to hear from you Rory. I'm away until the end of Jan, so I'll organise something for Feb.

cheers,

Craig
